A nutritious and tasty frozen treat for your favorite furry friend, featuring yogurt, banana, ground flaxseed, and a hint of peanut butter.
As it begins to warm up, I make these little treats for my adorable dog, Kiska. These were Laynie’s favorite treats until she passed away last summer. Now Kiska gets to enjoy these tasty frozen bits all to herself. She especially enjoys them after a walk and when it’s super hot outside.
I love that this recipe couldn’t be more simple – combine yogurt, banana, flaxseed, and peanut butter in a blender. Once smooth, pour into little molds and place in the freezer until firm.
And that’s all there is to it!
Now I do have a few helpful pointers for you.
First is the yogurt. I typically use my Creamy Non-dairy Yogurt comprised of rolled oats and a mixture of raw nuts. While dogs can have small quantity of dairy occasionally, I just use what I consume. It’s safe and dairy-free. I don’t have to worry if my dog is lactose-intolerant.
I think silicone molds are ideal for these treats, especially if you have cute shapes. Kids love sharing these with their furry friends because they’re fun; but your dog will most likely not care how the treat is shaped. Simple ice cube trays work very well.
The only problem with silicone is that it tends to be a little floppy. This is why I recommend placing the mold on a baking sheet, tray, or cutting board. It provides a lot more stability and will reduce the probability of a mess occurring in the freezer if they are jostled.
After the treats are frozen, remove them from the mold and store in a an air-tight freezer-safe container or readable bag. Then when your pooch is warm on a hot summer day, pull one or two of these out of the freezer and place in their dog dish to enjoy.
I promise your pup will give you lots of kisses after indulging in this cold refreshing treat.
I hope you enjoy these Healthy Banana Yogurt Treats (for dogs) as much as I do.
