Fast and Easy Pizza Sauce

A thick and simple tomato-based pizza sauce flavored with an abundance of herbs and spices. Great for pizza, toast, and calzones!

I really enjoy cooking and baking. But that doesn’t mean I always want complicated recipes and ingredients. But when I’m short on time and/or energy, I’m all about fast and easy.

And sometimes, it’s not because I’m lazy (though I do have my moments.). Sometimes I’m just tired, or don’t have a lot of time, or am focused on other priorities. I’m sure you know what I’m talking about.

Simply put, life can get super busy; so it’s good to have simple recipes that your family enjoys for the days want delicious and healthy meals without a lot of fuss. This Fast and Easy Pizza Sauce takes less than five minutes to prepare.

If you make the pizza dough the night before, you can have pizza ready in less than half an hour. And most of that time is your oven preheating. Seriously, it doesn’t get much easier.

This Fast and Easy Pizza Sauce is nice and thick. And that’s super important when you’re putting it on raw pizza dough. If it’s too wet, the pizza crust won’t cook nice and crisp and will remain doughy and soggy. It also contains plenty of herbs and spice to boost the flavor profile without unnecessary sugar and salt.

However, if you prefer a slightly sweeter and saltier sauce, feel free to add a little maple syrup or agave and salt to taste, as indicated in the recipe below.

I hope you enjoy this delicious plant-based pizza sauce as much as we do. Please let me know if you try it in the comments below. I’d love to hear what you think.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup crushed tomatoes (or tomato sauce)
  • 1 Tbsp Italian seasoning
  • 2 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp maple syrup or agave (optional)
  • salt to taste (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix all of the ingredients together.
  2. Spread on pizza dough or English muffin or toast.

Notes

This recipe makes enough pizza sauce for 2-3 pizzas, depending on how big your pizza is and how much sauce you are using.  Typically, you’ll want 1/3 to ½ cup pizza sauce on a regular sized pizza.

I do not normally add any sweetener (maple syrup) or salt. But if you aren’t used to eating a low salt or low sugar diet, you may prefer to add it in.  It’s personal preference.
