A delicious fiber-filled heart-healthy berry-banana powered smoothie bowl comprised of antioxidant-rich berries and nutrient-dense seeds and nuts, topped with granola, berries, and seeds.
1cup1 cup raw dark leafy greens (arugula or blend is best)
1cupsplant milk*
1cupsfrozen berries**
1cupfrozen bananas***
2Tbsphemp hearts – lowers bp
2Tbsprolled oats
2Tbspflax seed – lowers bp
1Tbsppsyllium husk – helps lower bp
1Tbspbeetroot powder – lowers bp
1-2raw nuts – promotes nutrient absorption
5-6datespitted
1Tbspcacao or cocoa powder or plant-based protein powder (optional)
Toppings: natural granola, fresh or frozen berries, and hemp hearts and/or seeds
Instructions
In a high-speed blender, blend all of the smoothie ingredients together until completely smooth, about 1 minute. *If drinking this as a smoothie, you may want to increase the milk to 1½ - 2 cups so that it isn’t too thick. As the psyllium husk, flax seed, and oats absorb moisture, it becomes a little thicker, like a light pudding.
Pour smoothie into 2 bowls and garnish with toppings. *Alternatively, pour into 2 glasses or 1 large blender bottle.
Notes
* If making a smoothie, increase the plant milk to thin it out a bit and make it more drinkable. ** I buy and freeze a bunch of bananas at once. That way, they’re always available when I want to make nice cream or a smoothie. On a cutting board, peel and slice and place in a freezer bag or container. Freeze until ready to use, up to 3 months.*** You can use any combination of frozen or fresh berries you like in this smoothie bowl.
